So as you know that resistor is available in many types and we use it in different circuit for different uses, however the basic of this post / article is that you learn about the R(resistors) that what is a resistor and it’s working in electrical and electronics circuit.
What is a Resistor and Types of Resistors & Uses
In short words a resistor is a component which make resistance in flow of current in electrical circuit. In other words a resistor is a component designed to have a known value of resistance or those components which are specially designed to have a certain amount of resistance are called resistors.
We know that resistor resistance depends on it’s length , resistivity, and area.
Types of Resistors
Regarding sizes , materials and shapes there are different types of resistors. Some of these R which did not change it’s resistance value one applied voltage and temperature is called Linear resistor. It’s means that those R which value of current is directly- propesnol to voltage is called linear resistors.
However those R which value can be change by applied voltage and temperature is called Non – Linear resistors. In other words these R value of current is not directly to applied voltage.
In Linear properties resistors have two main groups which are Fixed Resistors and Variable Resistors.
These R are those resistor which value can not be change, it’s means that these R have fixed value. In during- manufacturing these resistance value fixed and this can not be change again. There are some types of fixed R…

Non – Linear Resistors
Regarding Ohm’s Law flow of current is not change but due to applied voltage and temperature change is called non linear resistors.
Those resistors which change it’s value due to body temperature is called thermistors and those which value change due applied voltage is called varistors or VDR (voltage dependent resistors).
Uses of Resistors
We use resistors for different use and working. Some of these are below.
- To control current
- To change Electrical energy to Thermal energy.
- As shunt in ampere meter
- As multiplier in volt meter
- To Control voltage
- To Drop voltage
- For protection (fuse able resistor)
- In Electrical appliances
- In electronics industries
